Bayline Plumbing Makes the Switch from Copper to Infinity Stainless.
More than 100 metres of Infinity Stainless helped Bayline Plumbing deliver water and gas services across a four-level Melbourne apartment development – providing a compliant, commercially competitive alternative to copper.

Bayline Plumbing is a Melbourne-based plumbing contractor delivering residential and commercial plumbing projects across Victoria.
For a new four-level residential apartment development on Erica Avenue in Boronia, Bayline Plumbing selected Infinity Stainless as an alternative to traditional copper pipework.
The project represented Bayline Plumbing’s first significant move from copper to stainless steel plumbing pipe, requiring a system that could meet compliance requirements across both water and gas services, remain commercially competitive and deliver a clean, professional finish throughout the development.
A first move away from copper
Copper had traditionally been Bayline Plumbing’s preferred material for similar projects, so moving to stainless steel required confidence that the alternative would stack up technically, commercially and practically on site.
Pricing was an important consideration, with Infinity Stainless coming in line with, or better than, the copper alternative for the project.
Compliance was equally critical. The stainless steel system needed to meet applicable WaterMark requirements for water services, while the seals within the fittings needed to be suitable for the project’s gas applications.
Infinity Stainless fittings incorporate FKM O-rings, providing the material compatibility required by Bayline Plumbing for the nominated services.
The result was a stainless steel system that could meet the project’s technical requirements while also providing the clean, consistent finish Bayline was looking for.
Stainless across four levels
Infinity Pipe Systems supplied more than 100 metres of stainless steel pipe, together with fittings ranging from 28mm to 54mm, for installation across all four levels of the apartment development.
The system was used for both water and gas services.
Bayline Plumbing completed the installation itself using an Infinity Stainless press tool supplied for the project. The installation followed the development’s design plans, with Bayline making practical changes to the pipework layout where required as site conditions and project requirements became clearer.
This ability to adapt was important on a multi-level construction project where the final requirements did not always remain exactly as originally planned.
Keeping pace with a changing construction program
As installation progressed, changes made on site affected the timing and quantity of materials required at different stages of the build.
An initial delivery also took longer than anticipated, highlighting the need for a more responsive approach to freight and material coordination for the remaining stages of the project.
Rather than treating material supply as a fixed, one-off order, Infinity worked more closely with Bayline to understand upcoming requirements and align deliveries with the construction program.
Regular communication around upcoming stages and on-site changes allowed additional pipe and fittings to be allocated ahead of time.
Extra pipe was also pre-ordered to accommodate likely variations and further requirements as the installation progressed.
This closer forecasting gave Bayline greater flexibility to respond to changes on site while reducing the risk of material requirements holding up trades or disrupting the broader construction schedule.
Building confidence in stainless
More than 100 metres of Infinity Stainless was ultimately installed across all four levels of the Erica Avenue development, supporting both water and gas services.
For Bayline Plumbing, the project provided a practical test of stainless steel as an alternative to copper on a substantial residential development.
The system met the project’s compliance and application requirements, remained commercially competitive with copper and provided the clean visual finish Bayline was seeking.
Following the initial freight issue, the revised delivery approach, forward planning and regular communication helped keep subsequent material requirements aligned with the construction program.
Infinity Pipe Systems representative Stephen Grouios attended site and met with the Site Manager to review progress. Feedback from the project team indicated they were pleased with both the product and the level of service provided.
For Bayline, the project has established a strong foundation for considering Infinity Stainless on future residential and commercial developments.
